Research Highlights

I. Mine Workers Day

On 16 October 2018 the Historical Centre for Limburg, which hosts SHCL, opened its doors to former miners and their relatives to conduct research about their past as workers in the private mines of Limburg. More than 200 people visited the centre, underlining the importance of Limburg’s mining history. SHCL’s staff helped them to find relevant documents and photos.

II. Valedictory lecture and symposium

On 30 November – the day of his retirement – Ad Knotter held his valedictory lecture entitled ‘Labour of women in Limburg in the 20th century: a silent revolution’ in the aula of the University. Preceding the lecture a symposium took place, during which historians reflected on the question as to what gender perspectives have contributed to changes in our historical understanding over the past 30 years.
