What is HARI?
HARI is the new interfaculty and interdisciplinary Platform on Human- and Non-Human Relations, and Interactions at Maastricht University This Platform will bring together researchers, teachers and students in the domain of anthrozoology and other research areas that relate to our relations and interactions with animals.
There is a lack of scholarly attention given to our relation with non-human animals, e.g. in cultural, societal, linguistic, legal, ontological, cognitive, psychic, psychological, interactive, sustainable, political, health and care, science and engineering, business and economical, philosophical connections. Rather than a unified approach, the field currently consists of several methods adapted from the several participating disciplines to encompass human-nonhuman animal relationships. It is an interdisciplinary field that overlaps with other disciplines.
Aims of this Platform are targeted to four pillars i.e. research, education, external funding and international embedding, in particular:
- To create an inspiring environment for UM staff and students that work or aspires to work with this theme;
- To create an overview of current activities in animal related work at UM, regarding both research and education
- To initiate a community of people with similar research interests, that can act as a knowledge base at MU for submitting projects, developing teaching modules, for connecting internally, and to react to relevant societal issues.
Platform Menselijke en niet-menselijke dierrelaties en interacties (HARI)
HARI is het nieuwe interfacultaire en interdisciplinaire UM-platform over menselijke en niet-menselijke relaties en interacties. Dit platform brengt onderzoekers, docenten en studenten samen op het gebied van antrozoologie en andere onderzoeksgebieden die betrekking hebben op onze relaties en interacties met dieren.
Er is een gebrek aan wetenschappelijke aandacht voor onze relatie met niet-menselijke dieren, b.v. in culturele, maatschappelijke, linguïstische, juridische, ontologische, cognitieve, psychische, psychologische, interactieve, duurzame, politieke, gezondheid en zorg, wetenschappen en engineering, zakelijke en economische, filosofische verbanden. In plaats van een uniforme aanpak, bestaat het veld momenteel uit verschillende methoden die zijn aangepast vanuit de verschillende deelnemende disciplines om mens-niet-menselijke dierrelaties te omvatten. Het is een interdisciplinair veld dat overlapt met andere disciplines.
De doelstellingen van dit platform zijn gericht op vier pijlers, namelijk onderzoek, onderwijs, externe financiering en internationale inbedding, met name:
- Een inspirerende omgeving creëren voor UM-medewerkers en studenten die ernaar streven om met dit thema te werken, of dit al doen;
- Een overzicht creëren van de huidige activiteiten in dier-gerelateerd werk bij UM, met betrekking tot zowel onderzoek als onderwijs
- Een gemeenschap van mensen met vergelijkbare onderzoeksinteresses initiëren, die kan fungeren als een kennisbasis bij MU voor het indienen van projecten, het ontwikkelen van onderwijsmodules, voor het intern verbinden en om te reageren op relevante maatschappelijke kwesties.
