Techné: Research in Philosophy and Technology
Techné is the official journal of the Society for Philosophy and Technology (SPT). Techné began in 1995 and there are 3 Issues published per year. This journal has published essays by many important philosophers of technology who helped build the field, including Carl Mitcham, Paul Durbin, Philip Brey, Shannon Vallor, Joseph Pitt, Deborah Johnson, Andrew Feenberg, and Diane P. Michelfelder. Of note, special issues put together by Paul Durbin present overviews of the field of the philosophy of technology and reports on the Society for the Philosophy of Technology conferences and are also other special issues on particular themes, including Critical Theory, post-phenomenology, environmentalism, and feminism.
Philosophy and Technology
Philosophy & Technology is a quarterly journal published by Springer. There are many articles dedicated to particular authors, including Michel Foucault, Pierre Bourdieu and Gilbert Hottois, to name only a few. Of particular note, they published a special series on Philosophy of Technology and French Thought.
Technophany: A Journal for Philosophy and Technology
Technophany is the journal of the Research Network for Philosophy and Technology. First published in 2021, Technophany publishes special issues on particular philosophers of technology, including Jean-Francois Lyotard and Bernard Stiegler and themes within the philosophy of technology, including cosmotechnics and feminism.
Human Studies
The official journal for the Society for Phenomenology and the Human Sciences, this journal does publish essays in the philosophy of technology, including work in post-phenomenology.
Foundations of Science
Foundations of Science includes articles discussing the empirical turn, Heidegger’s philosophy of technology, and the role of transcendence in the philosophical study of technology.
Technology and Culture
- Founded in 1959, Technology and Cultureis the official journal of the Society for the History of Technology (SHOT). Besides being a leading journal for the history of technology, many articles on the history of the concept of technology, the historiography of technology, and the relationship between engineering and philosophy can be found in this journal.
History and Technology
Another important journal for the history of technology. History and Technology began in 1983 and is known for its variety of thematic issues and essays dedicated to the historiography of technology.

Philosophy of Engineering and Technology (Springer)
Edited by Pieter Vermaas, the Philosophy of Engineering and Technology book series contains many important books within the history of the philosophy of technology, including The Philosophy of Technology after the Empirical Turn.This series also publishes collections commemorating the work of those who have been awarded the lifetime achievement award from the Society for Philosophy and Technology (SPT), including Don Ihde, Andrew Feenberg, and Deborah Johnson. And, most importantly, there are a number of edited collections dedicated to national traditions, including Italian philosophy of technology, French philosophy of technology, Portuguese philosophy of technology, Chinese philosophy of technology, and Spanish philosophy of technology.
Groundworks (Rowman & Littlefield)
Edited by noted Gilbert Simondon scholars Arne De Boever, Alex Murray, Jon Roffe, and Ashley Woodward, this series translates important work by continental thinkers that have been forgotten or overlooked. Of particular note, this series includes a translation of the French philosopher Raymond Ruyer’s book Cybernetics and the Origin of Information as well as other books by Ruyer and the philosopher of science Michel Serres.
History and Philosophy of Technoscience (Routledge)
As the book series‘ title indicates, many books dedicated to the relationship between science and technology, but amongst the books in this series a few stand out, including books on the hermeneutics of technology, the history and philosophy of computing, and the history of technoscience.
Philosophy, Technology, and Society (Rowman & Littlefield)
Edited by Sven Ove Hansson, this series is largely dedicated to the study of new and emerging technologies, but does include an interesting collection on Paul Ricoeur as a philosopher of technology.
